Story behind the Art: The hand-carved games are crafted in Saharanpur in the region of Uttar Pradesh, India that is well-known for the ancient woodcarving techniques. Temples in this region bear witness to the early talent of artisans in that region. Today, the craft is still practiced using hand tools that are much the same.
Brief Game Summary:
Set Up the Game:
Place the tower on a flat surface.
The tower should be built by stacking 3 wooden blocks per layer, alternating the direction of each layer (e.g., one layer’s blocks are horizontal, the next layer’s blocks are vertical).
Starting the Game:
The game begins with the player who set up the tower or you can choose someone randomly.
Taking a Turn:
On your turn, carefully remove one block from any layer of the tower (except the top layer).
Use only one hand to remove the block. You can tap or wiggle the block to loosen it if needed.
Place the removed block on top of the tower, aligning it with the direction of the blocks on the layer below it.
Avoiding Collapse:
Ensure the tower remains stable after placing the block on top.
If the tower collapses during your turn, you lose the game, and the game is over.
Winning the Game:
The last player to successfully remove and place a block without causing the tower to collapse wins.
Enjoy the game!
Due to the handmade nature, slight variations in size, color, shape, pattern, or other characteristics may be evident. Each piece is truly a unique work of art, lovingly crafted by hand.
Global Crafts-Asha Handicrafts | Fair Trade | Made in India
India has always been renowned for its rich silk fabrics, woodcarvings and carpets. However, many of these products are produced in conditions of abject poverty for the craftsmen, exploited by large producers and moneylenders. Global Crafts works closely with a not-for-profit artisan partner, based in Mumbai that works to promote Fair Trade and Fair Trade practices. They are members of The World Fair Trade Organization and ensure that the benefits of handicraft production reach the craftspeople themselves.
